Overview
If you need help with basic essentials such as food and toiletries you can get this in a crisis from the Welcome Centre that provides the main food bank for Kirklees. You can also get help at specific times of the week from Community Food Share Schemes that are based throughout Kirklees.
The Welcome Centre - for help in a crisis
If you need urgent help to access food and other essentials such as toiletries the Welcome Centre in Huddersfield can help families and individuals by providing food parcels.
To get help from The Welcome Centre, you need a referral from a support worker or support professional.

Getting Help from The Welcome Centre
+To get help from The Welcome Centre, you need a referral from a support worker or support professional. There are a few simple ways to do this.

- If you already receive support from a service or professional, you can ask them to make a referral for you. This could be your GP, social worker, community psychiatric nurse or an agency such as housing services, Lifeline or Connexions.
- Telephone Kirklees Local Welfare Provision Team (LWP) on 01484 414782 during office hours. If you don’t have a phone to call LWP, there’s a free phone at the Customer Services reception, Civic Centre III, High Street, Huddersfield. Email lwp@kirklees.gov.uk
- Telephone Kirklees Citizens Advice & Law Centre between 9:30 am and 4 pm Monday to Friday on 03448487970 and they can refer you.
- Telephone Huddersfield Mission between 09:30 am and 12:30 pm Monday to Friday on 01484 421461 and they can refer you.
- Contact DASH (Supporting refugees and asylum seekers) on 07702 382647 or 07926 457599 Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday and they can refer you.
The Welcome Centre and the Local Welfare Provision team can both also help you to get advice and guidance on longer term problems such as budgeting and managing debt.

The questions include your name, address, your contact details, how many people are in your household, the ages of any children, any pets you have, if you have any special dietary needs and the reason you need help. This information is to help us to make sure that you get the right type of help. This might include referring you to other organisations for additional help and support if you so wish. The information also helps us to plan so that we can continue to help people.
